Nature preserve SOOS

This national natural preserve Soos is situated near the city Františkovy Lázně (Nový Drahov-Kateřina) and you can find there paint pots, so-called „mofets“. The national natural preserve Soos was proclaimed in the year 1964, its total area is 221hectares. The word "Soos" means in egerland, or more precisely city Cheb- German dialect, "swamp". In this natural preserve you can find as well great peat moor and a mineral spring – The Emperor Spring – springs forth here. The educational footpath leads on the wooden walkways just above the peat moor.
 


Františkovy Lázně

The curative effects of the local springs are well known since the 15th century. The spring water was used not only by the local people – it was sold all over Germany. It is documented that in the year 1700 the sale of Františkovy Lázně`s water was much higher than the volume of water coming from all German baths. The city was founded in the year 1793 by the Emperor František I. as the first quaggy bath in the world.
 


Vildštejn Castle

Vildštejn is not a fortress but a Roman castle. Due to later reconstructions the original court disappeared and that is why it makes an impression of one building nowadays – as a fortress. The castle was founded around the year 1200 and it is one of the most well-preserved Roman castles in our country. It originated in the time when the city Cheb was not a part of the Czech state yet.
